Holiday Card Making
The Senior Resource Center invites community members to join us for our December Lunch & Learn on Thursday, December 11, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. This month’s session will feature a fun and festive holiday card-making workshop, perfect for anyone looking to get creative and enjoy some holiday spirit.
Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to enjoy during the event. The workshop is free of charge, and all card-making supplies will be provided. In addition to creating handmade cards, guests will enjoy warm conversation, a relaxed atmosphere, and a special holiday treat.

The Western played a powerful role in American culture from the 1870s through the 1970s. Found in books, movies, radio, and television, Western stories helped shape American values for generations. This talk will explore why the Western became so popular in a rapidly growing, urban America, how it rose to dominance through the 1950s, and why it declined in the decades that followed.

Artemis II and What It Means for All of Us
The Senior Resource Center invites the community to blastoff into the future of space exploration with a free presentation. The program will be presented in person by Sarah Treadwell, NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador and science communicator.
NASA’s Artemis II mission will be the first crewed journey around the Moon in more than 50 years, sending three Americans and one Canadian on a 10-day mission this month. During this engaging presentation, attendees will learn how Artemis II fits into NASA’s broader plan to return humans to the Moon and build toward along-term, sustainable lunar presence—advancing science, exploration, and innovation for generations to come. Ultimately, the goal is to learn how to live and work on another world as we prepare for human missions to Mars.

Professional Women, Firsts
Join us for a special historical presentation, “Professional Women, Firsts,” on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 2:00–3:15 pm, in partnership with Women of Courage & Commitment. This engaging program brings history to life through dynamic portrayals of remarkable women who broke barriers and reshaped their fields.
Audience members will “meet” Nellie Bly, portrayed by Deb Pausz, the fearless journalist known for her record-breaking 72-day trip around the world and her groundbreaking undercover exposé of a mental institution. Also appearing is Ann Rule, interpreted by Melissa McGuire, America’s most prolific and successful true-crime writer, with 35 books on the New York Times Best Seller list and a reputation as a “psychological detective” for her in-depth research and victim-centered storytelling.
The program also features Anna Sutherland Bissell, portrayed by Kris Chapman, who became the first female CEO in the United States after her husband’s death in 1889 and led the company for decades. Mary Patten, interpreted by Emily Painter, shares the story of her extraordinary courage at sea as a 19-year-old navigating immense challenges aboard a merchant clipper in 1856. Rounding out the presentation is Dr. Mary Walker, portrayed by Cathie Elsbree, the first—and only—woman to receive the Medal of Honor.

SCIENCE SPOT SERIES- Mar 2, 2026
Celestial Ballet: Lunar Eclipse
The Senior Resource Center is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever interactive science series designed especially for older adults. Science Spot will debut this spring and take place on the first Monday of each month from 1:00–2:30 p.m.
This engaging, hands-on series will be taught by Corinne Sosso, an expert science educator and frequent guest on WIFR Morning Blend.
Each month, Science Spot will explore a wide variety of fascinating topics—from space and weather to everyday science and beyond. Participants can expect interactive demonstrations, simple experiments, and clear explanations designed to spark curiosity and build confidence. The goal? To make a scientist out of anyone—and give participants plenty of amazing facts to share with family and friends.
The first class, Celestial Ballet – Lunar Eclipse, will be held on March 2. Attendees will prepare for March’s total lunar eclipse by learning the science behind it, mastering moon phases, understanding key terminology, and discovering how the sun, moon, and Earth align to create this spectacular event.

Card Making Class
Get creative and craft three beautiful handmade cards—a Get Well, Thank You, and Thinking of You card—using cardstock, stamps, and other decorative materials. No prior experience is necessary; this fun, guided class is perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike.
This class is part of our new Create & Connect series—monthly art and craft classes taught by talented local experts, featuring a different project each month. Project fees will vary between $5–$20, depending on the cost of materials.
