Jo Daviess County Senior Expo
Join us for the Jo Daviess County Senior Expo, a free community event designed to connect older adults, caregivers, and families with valuable local resources and services. With 40+ vendors in attendance, participants can explore a wide range of topics including Medicare coverage, assisted and independent living options, home care, financial planning, mobility equipment, and more.
The event will also feature a free estate planning presentation sponsored by Plager Krug Bauer Rudolph & Stodden, LTD., offering helpful guidance for planning ahead with confidence.
Attendees can take advantage of the Lions Club Mobile Screening Unit, enjoy a live radio broadcast, and participate in fun giveaways throughout the morning. Anderson Japanese Gardens Day Trip
Join us for a relaxing and scenic trip to Anderson Japanese Gardens, one of the highest-rated Japanese gardens in North America. Join us for an unforgettable afternoon at Timber Lake Playhouse as we experience the beloved musical Les Misérables. Set in 19th-century France, this powerful production tells a moving story of hope, resilience, and redemption through unforgettable music and storytelling.

September Topic: Understanding the Aging Process - How Aging Affects Your Nutritional Status
The aging process occurs along a spectrum, with older adulthood generally beginning between the ages of 60 and 65. As individuals move through this stage of life, they often experience three distinct phases of aging. Each stage presents its own challenges and can influence a person’s independence, health status, and nutritional needs. For example, changes in mobility, cognition, or appetite, often due to sensory loss or medications, can affect nutritional status and increase the risk of undernutrition.
To better understand these changes, the Senior Resource Center and the University of Illinois Extension will host this session on Tuesday, September 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Midwest Medical Center, 1 Medical Drive, Galena, IL. During this program, we will explore common challenges faced by older adults, learn how aging influences nutritional needs, and discover why good nutrition is crucial to healthy aging. Participants will also receive practical tips and strategies to help navigate the nutritional changes associated with aging.

Create your own enchanting fairy house in this fun, hands-on workshop! Using a wooden birdhouse as the base, participants will decorate their own whimsical fairy home with miniature flowers, tiny plants, rocks, beads, bottle caps, jewelry pieces, and other unique treasures. Let your imagination run wild as you design a magical fairy garden filled with charm and personality. No crafting experience is necessary, and all skill levels are welcome.

Join our Golden Gamers Group, a fun and welcoming opportunity for older adults to connect through games, laughter, and friendship. The group will meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at the Galena ARC.
