Volunteering at The Senior Resource Center offers a rewarding opportunity to make an impact in our community as we serve older adults and disabled adults. Receptionist

RECEPTIONIST

SENIOR RESOURCE CENTER (STEPHENSON & JO DAVIESS COUNTY)

 

We are in need of friendly & outgoing people, who have the ability to multi-task & enjoy working with the public at the Senior Resource Center in Freeport & Hanover.

The Receptionists serve as the first contact for visitors to the Senior Resource Center. They will greet and provide our visitors/callers with any information they may need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet, check-in visitors, & provide a welcoming experience
  • Answer & transfer phone calls
  • Provide information about our organization & its programs, including the daily activities
  • Schedule appointments
  • Be able to use basic email & calendar
  • Take donations
  • Assist with forms
  • Sign for deliveries
  • Make copies
  • Make coffee

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge & understanding of SRC departments, programs, & activities
  • Basic office equipment & computer knowledge
  • Pleasant manner, patient, & dependable
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Ability to hear and speak on the telephone

Hours/Commitment:

  • Daily Shifts are 8:30AM-12:30PM or 12:30PM-4:30PM, Monday – Friday
  • We are flexible but would like consistency
  • There will be periodic meetings & trainings to make sure everyone is up-to-date on SRC information

Training:

  • We will provide an orientation & trainings for each volunteer

AARP Tax-Aide

AARP TAX-AIDE VOLUNTEER

SENIOR RESOURCE CENTER

Tax-Aide Volunteers provide free personal income tax assistance & preparation services to clients of low to moderate income, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares tax forms, including sorting paperwork & inputting data into a computer system
  • Explain tax returns to clients & answer any questions they may have to the best of your ability & training
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality policies of the SRC, AARP & the IRS
  • Working with a diverse group of people

Qualifications 

  • Patience & professionalism (Experience with the elderly and/or developmentally disabled a plus).
  • Comfortable with computers
  • Detail orientated
  • Experience doing your own taxes in the past

Hours/Commitment:

  • Minimum 4-8 hours a week, during tax season

Requirements:

  • Must register with AARP
  • Take & Pass the AARP Training & Certification Test for the tax program
  • The Tax-Aide coordinator will provide an orientation & trainings for each volunteer

Transportation

Medical Van

SENIOR RESOURCE CENTER (STEPHENSON COUNTY)

We are looking for friendly people, who have the ability & patience to work with the public as a medical van driver for the Senior Resource Center in Freeport.

Medical van drivers will serve as a safe passage for seniors to their medical appointments in Rockford, Monroe, and other outlying areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-check and post-check a van to make sure it is safe for travel (enough oil, tires look full, etc…)
  • Pick up client from their home, helping them to and from the vehicle
  • Assisting clients to their appointments
  • Waiting while the client has appointment, surgery, etc…(can sometimes be several hours)
  • Collect payment from rider
  • Return them to their home
  • Filling up the gas tank

Qualifications:

  • Safe driver
  • Friendly nature

Hours/Commitment:

  • Vary Depending on demand

Training:

  • We will provide an orientation & trainings for each volunteer

Money Management

DAILY MONEY MANAGERS

SENIOR RESOURCE CENTER

Daily Money Managers meet one-on-one with clients to assist them with their finances by helping them pay bills, balancing their check book & reconciling their bank statement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meets client in their home to pay bills, balance the check book & reconcile with the bank statement. (An average of 1-2 hours/month)
  • Completes initial orientation/training & attends periodic ongoing training of volunteers
  • Meets with program coordinator to receive client assignments and for ongoing support
  • Performs tasks in accordance to IL Department on Aging Volunteer Money Management Program

Qualifications 

  • General knowledge of household budgeting, maintaining a check register & reconciling with the bank statement. (Full training is provided)
  • Patience & professionalism (Experience with the elderly and/or developmentally disabled a plus).

Hours/Commitment:

  • 1-2 Hours per month

Training:

  • We will provide an orientation & trainings for each volunteer
