MediCare Basics Class

If you are turning 65, have questions or need a refresher about Medicare, this class is for you. A Medicare Basics/Turning 65 class will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m., at the Senior Activity Center. This class is taught by Ralph Norman who is a licensed SHIP counselor. Diabetes Workshop Begins

The Senior Resource Center and the University of Illinois Extension are teaming up to present a 14-week diabetes prevention and management program called, “The Choice Is Yours.” It begins Monday, April 22, and runs through Monday, July 29, at the Senior Activity Center. Classes will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration costs $40 per person or $70 per couple. Golden Meals Grocery Bingo

July 30 @ 9:30 am

Enjoy bingo followed by lunch Tuesday, July 30, at 9:30 a.m. at the NICAA Golden Meals site in the Crum & Forster Building, 524 W. Stephenson St., lower level.  Enter at the rear of the building. Bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the food pantry and join in the fun.  If you would like to stay for lunch, please call the Golden Meals site.

Mama Mia Day Trip

Very few tickets remain for the Senior Resource Center day trip to see “Mama Mia” at Timber Lake Playhouse. The trip is Wednesday, July 31. The Senior Resource Center and the Stephenson County Genealogical Society have formed the Monthly Genealogy Club.  It meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.  This month’s meeting will be Thursday, June 6, at the Senior Activity Center. The free group will discuss genealogy issues with others who may be able to provide guidance.  Professional genealogists lead the group.

A Senior Grief Support Group is under way at the Senior Activity Center.  It is open to widowed and divorced seniors, no matter how long they have been on their own. Each meeting will include a discussion topic, and everyone will have an opportunity to share their present feelings, thoughts and struggles.  The group meets the first and third Mondays of every month.  The August meetings will be at 3:30 p.m. August 5 and 19 at the Senior Activity Center.
